Nitric acid is an important chemical raw material, mainly used in the manufacture of ammonium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, nitrate phosphate fertilizer, nitrogen and potassium and other compound fertilizers. As the essential raw material for making nitrate nitrogen fertilizer (such as ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, etc.), wangshui, nitroglycerin, nitrocellulose, nitrobenzene, picric acid and nitric ester, but also used to make explosives containing nitro groups.

Organic industry: used in the manufacture of tetritromethane, nitrohexane, 1-nitropropane, 2,4-dinitrophenoxylethanol and other nitro compounds.

Dye industry: used for the synthesis of p-nitrobenzoyl ether, 4,4 ′ -dinitrodiphenyl ether, p-nitrophenol, 2,5-dichloritrobenzene and other dye intermediates.

Coating industry: used for manufacturing nitro varnish and nitro porcelain paint.

Pharmaceutical industry: used to manufacture of nitroacetophenone.

Water treatment: nitric acid can be used as carbon steel, stainless steel equipment cleaning rust remover, used in the REDOX treatment process of sewage and wastewater. In the process of biological treatment, it can be used as the nitrogen source in microbial nutrients.

Other effects: nitric acid as an oxidant can oxidize alcohol, aniline and other chemicals. And are already used as rocket propellants. Nitric acid is also the raw material for the nitrate of calcium, copper, silver, cobalt and strontium. Nitric acid is also used to refine metals (that is, impure metals are oxidized to nitrate before eliminating impurities).

Nitric acid is used as etching agent and strong acid cleaning corrosive agent, which can be used with glacial acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide, etc.

Nitric acid is used as an analytical reagent, such as as a solvent, as an oxidant. Also used for organic synthesis, to produce various kinds of nitro compounds.
